Jordyn brought Pisol Annie for her first session. She is only 7 weeks old and just the teeniest thing. But don't let her size fool you. Jordyn says she lives up to her name, "Pistol". She loves to play and is adorable when she hops around. She looks like a little wind up toy. She is so cute.

The sacrifice of our military men and women is amazing. But the sacrifice of their families is as great and often overlooked. Michael was home on leave and got to meet his newborn baby daughter, Kennedy, over Christmas. I cannot imagine being a father and not able to be there for the delivery. I cannot imaging being a mother, giving birth, without my husband there to support me.
The debt of gratitude we owe these people can never be adequately repaid. I pray God blesses, protects and supports all who serve and all who wait.

Susan judges Columbus Metro Parks 2011 Print Contest

I spent yesterday evening at Inniswood Gardens judging photographs for the 2011 Metro Parks Nature Print Contest. It is always such a pleasure to be chosen to judge because there are so many awesome images. Photographs are of locations in Ohio, in the Columbus Metro Parks themselves, nature and wildlife. The talent of these photographers makes it really hard. There were over 250 entries.
The exhibit of photographs will travel to Blacklick Woods, Blendon Woods and Highbanks Park after its stay at Inniswood. It would be well worth your time to go see it.

Seniors can choose Yearbook Images that show off their personality!

I just received a post from Kris Sander, GCHS yearbook advisor. She'd come from a meeting and after listening to concerns of students and parents about the possible change to the way yearbook images are to be submitted next year, they have decided images can come from any studio the student chooses and the can have images that display their individuality. She said the detemining factor is that the students would lose the freedom to choose and show their personality. They want the senior year experience to remain special for them. That is GREAT NEWS for all seniors. Thank you, Mrs. Sander.

GCHS Yearbook information

Hi GCHS students and parents.

I had a myriad of messages on my machine this morning from unhappy parents concerning the new policy by GCHS of only accepting yearbook images next year that are taken by Root Studio from Hilliard, which is a satellite of H&R Imaging in Chicago. I would like to make two things clear concerning the latest email that is circulating from the school. The email states that we do not support the school like Root Studio.

1. Be abundantly clear, ROOT STUDIO’S INTEREST IS NOT SOLELY THE BENEFIT OF THE YEARBOOK, THEY EARN REVENUE FROM ALL ACTIVITIES THEY PHOTOGRAPH AND THE PHOTOS THEY SELL.

We have always cooperated fully with the yearbook advisor and have on many occasions, emailed over images when students have been late having their pictures taken. Not only that, but if we attend an event and photograph, we have always been willing to GIVE the school the images to use if the yearbook staff has not been able to get them. Just recently, we provided pictures to Westfall HS and have always done so to all schools who request it.

2. To say that we do not support the yearbook, is an injustice to us. We have purchased a FULL-PAGE AD IN THE YEARBOOK FOR OVER 15 YEARS. The cost is $300 per year. Two years ago, we purchased an ad that was never put into the yearbook, but when we found out, we did not make an issue of that, we merely allowed them to keep the ad money and apply it to the next year. We also, always, purchase an ad in the sports programs. We are also sponsoring the scorers' table for winter sports for the next three years. We sponsor posters for the Lady Hounds basketball team. We have supported the Band through the Band Bazaar and donate to the Scholarship Program.

Our commitment this year is over $1500. Over the years, we have funnelled TEN'S OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS into GCHS because we feel it is important to support our community.

As a final note, please be assured that we will be more than happy to provide you with SENIOR PICTURES OF YOUR STUDENT THAT YOU CAN TREASURE AND BE PROUD TO GIVE TO YOUR FAMILY. You are only obligated to have the FREE SCHOOL PICTURES taken by Root Studio.

If this policy is allowed to stand, you do not even have to travel to Hilliard to have them done. They will be at GCHS to take school pictures on December 15 and school pictures look like school pictures no matter where they are taken.

We are so very sorry that the picture in your SENIOR PICTURE IN YOUR YEARBOOK WILL NOT LOOK ANY DIFFERENT THAN THE FRESHMEN’S PICTURES.

We thank you for all you support. Especially all of you who have called and emailed. I photograph enough kids from enough schools that my concern is for you more than for my business. We will be fine. I have a great time with high school seniors and believe their senior year and pictures should be something SPECIAL.

And again, I want you all to know how sorry I am that the school has made the changes to the yearbook picture policy for the kids that require them to get their SCHOOL PICTURE from Root, aka H & R Imaging of Chicago.

What breaks my heart as an artist is that your senior year is the one year where you are free to be as creative as you wish to express, through your senior picture, who you are and what matters to you. I cannot fathom senior pictures in a public school yearbook without Varsity jackets, sports memorabilia, cars, pets, musical intstruments, and on and on. This is a right of passage and a privilege of senior status.

AS ALWAYS, WE WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THE STUDENTS OF GROVE CITY HIGH SCHOOL AND WILL ASSIST THE YEARBOOK STAFF IN ANY WAY WE CAN.

It was so much fun to get to photograph her and then to get a bit of snuggle time with her at the end of her session. Shadowing Day 2011

What a fun day! Allison and Cole came in to shadow today. Mickey helped them with light set up and let them use the camera and they did really well. I was afraid we were overloading them with technical information but they did a great job trying to keep up. Except in those last two images. I think at that point they were having way too much fun.
We may have some future employees here. Definitely a lot of talent.

Grove City Road Closure Notices

We wanted to pass along some local road closure information, to make it a little easier, if you travel this area.

"Two Grove City road closings are planned.

Haughn Road will close for six days starting Feb. 14.

State Route 665 will close for about 60 days starting Feb. 15.

Old Haughn Road: The city has contracted with Darby Creek Excavating to complete the Haughn Road-Fryer Park water main improvement project.

The road closure should last no more than six days, weather permitting. Traffic will be maintained during the remaining project work on the east side of the road over the next few months.

State Route 665 will detour east to Gateway West Drive to the relocated Haughn Road to old Haughn Road to Route 665 west and the opposite for Route 665 west traffic. The estimated completion date is April 10.

The closure marks the official start of construction on the Interstate 71-Route 665 Interchange Project. The $22-million project will create a single point urban interchange at I-71 and route 665, similar to the I-270 and Sawmill Road interchange. "

Picked up this information online and not really sure about the specifics but we hope it will save you some trouble if you travel in this area.

And... A Moment In Time Studio scored FOUR Awards of Excellence in the Senior Folio Print Competition! We were each allowed to enter 3 folios and all 6 were chosen to be included in the exhibition at Tradewinds Resort. EVEN BETTER, Mickey got awards on ALL THREE and Susan got one, too!! Woooohooooo! It was terrific.

SYNC - Senior & Youth National Conference - is a new and exciting innovative event. SYNC features lectures and events which specialize in photographing High School Seniors.

Started by industry leaders Darty Hines and Colleen Gonsar, this conference is five days packed full with great speakers, competiton and hands on photography sessions. Many of the top speakers in the country on Senior Portraits presenting programs, discussing the newest techniques, products, equipment and inovations in an ever changing market.

SYNC also holds interactive events each evening with hands-on training by top senior portrait photographers. A print competition, award show, and trade show round out the SYNC event. Hundreds of photographers from all over the country converged to participate.

Sigma Corporation of America is pleased to announce our second annual scholarship contest!

The Sigma Corporation of America Scholarship will award a cash gift of $5,000 as well as a gift card in the amount of $1,000 for Sigma products to one talented high school senior to advance his or her education and goals toward obtaining a career in the photography industry.

Sigma Corporation of America (Ronkonkoma, NY, is seeking photos and applications submissions for its second Scholarship Contest. Open to all high school seniors who plan to pursue a photo-related career,the annual contest features $6000 in cash and photography gear. All interested students must submit between three and five photos that are thematically tied. All students must also complete an essay of between 300 and 800 words that describes their creative process in shooting, selecting and editing their photos.

Applications will be accepted online from 12:00 a.m. Eastern Time ("ET") on November 15, 2010 to 5:00 p.m. ET on February 28, 2011. Please note that Sigma will review each and every submission prior to posting it to the website, which could result in a delay of as much as 48 hours from the time the submission is sent to when it appears online. The option to submit applications will be turned off at exactly 5:00 p.m. ET on February 28, 2011.

Online voting will occur from 12:00 a.m. ET on March 1, 2011 to 5:00 p.m. ET on April 1, 2011, and the winner will be announced April 18, 2011.

What a fantastic day! We ran a quick family special last month where we donated the entire session fee to the Mid Ohio Food Bank. Today we made a $350.00 presentation to the Food Bank!!! Woooohoooooo! Now, that's what I call fun!!

I want to do that again!! I will have to come up with something new real soon! God has blessed me more that I could ever even have imagined and has put us in a position to try to be a blessing to someone who needs it. You just gotta do something, you know. All Christmas orders are processed and ready for pickup! Woooo hooooo! Beth has collapsed in the corner, but should be fine soon. LOL Yesterday's delivery was huge and the last of the orders for Christmas.
These are all we have left for pickup, all the rest have been picked up! The "orders ready" room is emptying out. Lots of gifts under the Christmas tree from A Moment In Time Studio.
Now that we have gotten all orders in, we can actually relax and get our own Christmas's ready.

This is the delivery of orders for today! Poor Beth! It's been this way for two months. We will be closed the week between Christmas eve and New Year's Day and I am pretty sure Beth will have to rest for at least half that. Thank you, Beth.

We don't rest until everyone who orders for Christmas has their completed order. We are almost there!!! Wooo hooooo!

The studio will close on Thursday, December 23 at 6 pm and will not reopen til Monday, January 3, 2011 (wow---is it possible this year is over?). Poor Beth. Stepped off her porch last night and twisted her ankle. We were trying to figure out if this is 4th or 5th sprain of same ankle. I took her over some crutches that we pass around the family. (Sad commentary on our injury status.) Crutches are not fast enough for her so at work today she is improvising with her own "wheeled knee chair". Just watch out when she gets close, there's no steering wheel on this thing. Never a dull moment

Brady's Birthday Session

It is nearly impossible for me to realize that it has been a year since we did Brady's newborn pictures. Now he is active, playful and a true joy! Thank you, Laurie, for bringing him in for his birthday session. He was awesome.

Little Surfer Girls

Payton and Ally have been coming to the studio every year since they were tiny. It is so hard photograph them so grown up. But they are absolutely the cutest! It was a family member who answered our call and sold us the surfboards, so their session there was so appropriate. Love summer at the beach. Hugs to my girls, susan

STAFF EXCITEMENT!!!

We have a new microwave!!!!! OK, there's a story to this. You see, we have a little, old microwave in the work room that, according to the label inside, was manufactured in 2000.
The wattage is low and it took forever to heat anything. Popcorn was never completely popped. Orville Reddenbacker would have been furious.
We have been needing a new one forever but I just never remembered when I was shopping. Not only was the wattage low, the door had one of those buttons that you had to push to pop the door open. Inevitably, we would have a plate of something in our hands and that button would not work. Lately, it just decided not to work at all.
So...while the IT tech was here setting up my new computer (which is why I felt guilty and got a microwave), I ran out to get some supplies. And there was this microwave, just sitting there. Waiting to come home with me.
So, I brought it in and Beth was so excited, she yells, "You got a new microwave!!!" really loud. And we have a building full of clients. I am pretty sure she scared a couple of them.
Jim is setting it up and we should very soon be passing out popcorn to everyone.

Hunter's Gma has formal portraits of all the grandbabies when they are 2 and a half. It was his turn and we got Julie and Terry in a few, too. Hunter was perfect and even Jersey Girl got into some. Fun day!

I had the most amazing weekend ever!!!!!! My Photographic Art Exhibition was last Friday and Saturday in Mansfield with Daniele Morgan at Blake Anthony's. Blake and Scott were incredible hosts. The exhibit of the prints was beautiful and the reception could not have been more gorgeous. It was extremely well attended. Blake and Scott, we are deeply appreciative. You are awesome!

The Mulvany Family July 2010

I gotta tell you, the session we did with the Mulvany family was sooooo much fun! We laughed through the whole time. Molly is the youngest and the fourth high school senior we have photographed from the family and it was time to do a family portrait. Just getting everyone in the same place at the same time was a miracle in itself. And the kids teased and poked and played and laughed. Cracked me up!

It is wonderful working with a family that obviously loves and enjoys each other. I was totally blessed by the whole experience.

Collin got back from Germany just in time for his session and he looked great! Mickey said he was so easy to photograph. I said, "I'm sure. So were his brothers!" Great family! Even Gus was having a photogenic day!

Amanda had an amazing session! Any girl who can handle a horse, wrangle 2 puppies and still manage to look calm and that good, has some kind of future ahead of her! Mickey and I had so much fun with her! Hope you have an incredible senior year!

Laurie and Deon brought Brady in for his session and wanted to include some of Deon's firefighter gear. The rest is history! Deon and Brady make awesome models!

And Mickey did an amazing job! The title of the image is perfect, it's "Rescued". This is his first ever time entering the Professional Photographers of America competition and to do so well is fantastic. We know there are more great things ahead for him. What a terrific member of our team!

Parker is absolutely adorable! Michelle and Jamie, Parker's Mommy and Daddy, have been friends of Jama's since tiny time, so we have been really excited to meet Parker.
Newborns are amazing to photograph and he gave us some really awesome images. Just had to share a few. Hope you love them as much as we did.

OK! THE SURF SHACK IS OPEN! Our newest prop, the Surf Shack is in use. You are gonna love it! Rob was in today and in his outdoor portion of his session, Mickey took him out to our newest area. Jim finished building it yesterday and got the final touches complete this afternoon.
Aaron, a great guy from here in Grove City responded to our fb request to buy a surfboard and actually had two and a boogie board. It is awesome! I had no idea I would be able to find a surfboard in Ohio (not much demand for them on Lake Erie) so I was thrilled. Do you know what it costs to have one of those things shipped???!!!
We have been so excited and could not wait to use it in a session. So here it is, for the first time ever! Ta Daaaa!
