Spring is finally here!

You have to LOVE this weather. I did some landscaping this weekend and actually sunburned my nose! There is something really great about that first sunburn of the season (as long as it is not a bad burn). The way your nose feels crinkly when you press on it and you just feel like you have that healthy, outdoorish color. I was looking pretty pasty lately and now I look less like the walking dead.

And, COLOR! Green grass. The daffodils are blooming. My maples have buds that are the most gorgeous red. The magnolia tree is all budded up and ready to bloom. I can’t wait!

Now I realize that there will still be cold days and my grandma always said there would be 3 snows after the forsythia blooms, but I am the eternal optimist. This weather has given me a taste of warmth and the hope of summer to come. I will take all of these days I can get!
So, for now, you can find me in the garden. My nose will be sun burnt, I will wear my worn out, totally comfortable gardening clothes, I will have dirt under my nails, and I will love every minute of it!!!

2009 Parade of Homes

We are soooooooooo excited!!!!

We have been asked by a designer of a Parade of Homes builder to help decorate the home with our portraits! How awesome is that?! My mind is racing. I have a million ideas and on top of that, she really liked some of the images we already have here so there’s no telling which of our clients will end up on the wall of this $890,000. home.

The Parade of Homes will be in Dublin this year. The builder is Gossing Construction and the design in incredible. I will give more details as it is ok for me to release them. We had a meeting with Julie, the designer, to get an idea of colors and styles and I am so impressed. I cannot believe the other businesses with whom she is coordinating — Geitgey’s Amish Furniture, the Great Indoors, Forton Iron Works, Hilliard Furniture and KA Menendian to mention a few.

This will be the third time we have been approached to do this and I am more excited about this one than any other. I did a little happy dance around the office with the phone in my hand when Julie called. She is wonderful! A really nice, classy lady, from New Albany, loves her Siberian Huskies and skiing.

So, you will all have to make plans to come to the Parade of Homes to see us and to meet Julie. I can’t wait.

Snow Storm of 2009

WOW! The weather forecasters hit it on the head this time. Snow. Then ice. Then lots more snow. What a winter storm!
We hope you all were well and stayed warm. Jim and I made it in to the studio today but I’m not so sure we will get out. At least we have power and are warm. God bless all those electric line, phone line, heating product delivery personnel and all the people working outside today. We couldn’t believe it when our UPS person made it all the way down the drive to make a delivery.
And a huge THANKYOU to all the road crews, law enforcement and fire fighters. I hope you all get some well deserved rest when this is all over!!
It took forever just to clear an area for entry into the studio, with all the ice to be chipped away.
I have to tell you though, I am one of those people who stands out in the snow and just watches it come down. It is so beautiful!! The flakes were huge and fluffy. Everything looked so clean and pure. It was so quiet. There is something about a snowfall like that.
The ice that formed on the trees and bushes turned them into glass sculptures. Occasionally, the sun would break through the clouds and the ice would sparkle like diamonds. I just couldn’t help taking the camera out and photographing some of them. They were gorgeous.
When my girls were little, I would dress them up like Ralphie’s little brother in the movie, “A Christmas Story”. You know, they dressed him up in the snowsuit that was so thick his arms stuck straight out and if he fell down, there was no chance in the world he could get up. As they got a bit older, I became more realistic and we would spend hours outside, snow mobiling, sledding, skating, making snowmen and snow angels. We always had hot chocolate when we came in and it tasted better then somehow. Now, their children are doing the same things. They are so fun to watch. Just makes me realize how quickly time passes.
Well, winter isn’t over and I am sure there will be more days when I ponder my rationale for living in a state with such cold weather. I have often alluded to the fact that if I were smarter, I would be living in a warmer climate
But, I gotta tell you, I loved today. It was renewing and beautiful. I hope you had a few minutes to see and appreciate it for the wonder it is. Stay warm.

Our sleigh has been stolen but not our joy!!!!

The terrific red sleigh we have used to celebrate Christmas was stolen on Thanksgiving night.

We had most recently used the sleigh in our Christmas special this year. We attached a wreath and big red bow and put it out by our sign with a spot light on it. Sometime in the night, someone drug it down off the hill and made off with it.

I would love to say we will replace it but the truth is it was hand made for us by a gentleman who no longer can make them. But I am sure we will find something just as special for next year. For now, we have a sign out front that says what we want said.

Susan Earns Two Blue Ribbons

The whole staff of A Moment In Time Studio went to the Fall Convention and Competition of the Professional Photographers of Ohio at the Easton Hilton in November.

The portfolio competition is held every year and is judged by a panel of Professional Photographer of America certified judges. Any photographer from the state of Ohio can enter.

Susan received blue ribbons on both her portfolios. In addition, Beth and Mickey each had a portfolio accepted into the Exhibition.

Competition was stiff and we were really excited with our awards. There was a good deal of yelling and cheering.

Competitions like these really keep us on our toes and help us stay current with new styles and products. It’s also a good time to meet up with photographer friends and compare notes. We get some of our best ideas that way.
