Winter Beauty

I got a few minutes to go out photographing the snow on my lunch hour today. The sun was bright and beautiful and the whole world looked clean and pure. I love snows like this.
When I was in sixth grade, our class drew names for the Christmas present exchange. I drew Jeannie's name. It was the era of the little silk scarves tied around you neck over a sweater. Very movie-ish. Well, I knew Jeannie really liked those so I took my allowance and went to Heleine's (THE Grove City place for women's clothing)and bought her two. One was red and the other was navy blue. I could not wait to give them to her.
The last day of school before Christmas break was the day of the party. The night before, I laid out everything for school and put Jeannie's wrapped gift on top.
Sometime in the night,the snow began to fall. When I woke up, the snow was already as high as my knees. And still falling. The radio started announcing school closings and sure enough, ours was closed.
Normally I would have been thrilled for a snow day but this was our party. We had all decorated, made ornaments, whispered about whose name we had drawn and who might possibly have ours. We were even going to have ice cream in those little cups that had the red snowman imprint in it. You know, the ones you eat with the little wooden spoons. Now the snow had cancelled all that. No party.
And we all had these presents for friends.
Mothers started calling mothers and it was decided that since most of us lived close enough to the school and each other to walk, we would deliver gifts to each other over the holiday.
The day school was cancelled was windy, blustery and viciously cold. No one ventured out. But the next day........ We awoke to the most gloriously bright, sunny day. The snow was still pristine. The wind had swept it smooth and it shone so bright you could not keep your eyes open. Mine would be the first footprints.
After breakfast, I dressed up warm, put on my boots, picked up Jeannie's gift and started the walk to her house. It took about 15 minutes and when I arrived, I was invited in while she opened her gift.
I truly do not remember her reaction. I am sure she acted pleased and thanked me appropriately.
What I remember was walking through the snow up over my knees, stepping high and hearing the snow crunch as I took a giant step and brought my boot down. I remember the snow going down into the top of my boot and beginning to melt. I remember my pant legs being wet and cold. I remember my cheeks being so cold. And I remember how wonderfully bright the sun was on that snow. Even the air smelled clean. I was actually smiling to myself because the world was soooo beautiful.
It was one of those days in your life you will never forget and each time you remember it, all your senses bring it back and you are there again.
Today, out photographing the snow, I was there again. It was one of those days.

SYNC Competition and Convention January, 2010

WOW! What an incredible 5 days! Classes from 9 am to 11 pm. Brain so full it feels like it is going to explode. Ideas so awesome you want to burst. Excitement you can't even imagine to implement new stuff. New backgrounds that blow you away. We were so like kids in a candy store looking at all the new technologies and trying to soak up all the information we could!

Mickey and I each entered images in the competition. I am very happy to report that all of the images we entered were accepted into the exhibition! Hurray!!!! One of Mickey's images was even given an Award of Excellence!!!! Soooooooooooooo proud!

It's competitions and conventions that really keeps us on our toes and drives us to be the very best we can be. We do this not just for ourselves but for our clients. Learning everything we can about new trends, new equipment, new technologies and new designs makes us more able to give you all the very, very best portraits possible. We have always subscribed to this belief and will never stop trying to be better!!!!

We even took a couple of hours for a trip to the Salvador Dali Museum. Studing the artwork of the Masters helps us keep the fundamentals of great art in mind. Dali was an incredibly interesting, some say strange artist.

Speaking at Cypress Wesleyan Church's Mom Connection

Monday evening and Tuesday morning, Beth and I had the opportunity to make a presentation to the Mom Connection group at Cypress Wesleyan Church on Alton-Darby Rd. in Hilliard. Both groups were terrific. They start their get together with a potluck and kindly invited us to join them. I gotta tell you, there are some outstanding cooks at Cypress! Dinner buffet on Monday, breakfast buffet on Tuesday, diet on Wednesday. It sure was worth it!
We started with a slide show of some images from out sessions. Then the presentation covered information about how to photograph your children and a question and answer period that covered technical and camera questions.
It was great to meet all these wonderful ladies and we so appreciate the invitation to speak.

Welcome Baby Ellison

Born November 13, Ellison was barely 2 months old when she came to the studio for her first portrait session. Older sister, Emma is a practiced veteran and came to lend her support and expertise. She is an excellent big sister. Even Grandma came to share the experience. Ellison settled right into the session, and being the beautiful child that she is, and allowed us to create some amazing images.

Did you all see the piece on Evan Patzer on the Channel 10 news tonight? MR. TEEN UNIVERSE! Awesome! And he holds down a job and has a GPA of 3.8. Amazing! Congratulations! When you listen to interview, it's awesome. Evan has such an fantastic attitude.
It's incredible to have a model like this for senior pictures! Lucky us! Thanks Evan!

Snow Day Special

Can you believe all the snow?!! Today's snowfall is just beautiful! I love soft, big flake snows. Actually, I love coming in from outdoors, building a fire and sitting on the couch with a good book and an afghan. Add a hot cup of tea and you have one happy photographer!
I have always loved snow pictures and have a blast photographing people in the snow. However, Mickey is stealing all my seniors outside. He likes snow angels and snow ball fights. (FYI No snow ball fights with camera in hand!) So, since so many kids are out of school for snow days, we are offering a special on outdoor pix. Check out the special pricing and give us a call.
